I believe in a public health movement that leads, rather than responds. One that invokes a moral vision radically grounded in human life: That between birth and death, we experience the world in ways unique to ourselves, but never truly alone.
Our togetherness, in all its fragility and possibility, creates politics. To make lasting change, public health must stretch out to the fundamentals of politics. Innovative public health means keeping our eyes on the prize. |
Innovation means owning the 'why' of our purpose, pressing our available possibilities further than what we've got now to create new opportunities.
It means getting back to the basics, to do them in a new way. It means taking on intractable problems -- the things others believe can't be solved -- and making them the test cases of our creativity. Innovation is about wanting to be first, rather than waiting for others to try it first. And it must do so in a way that is radically human. |

I'm a medical anthropologist in search of better solutionsI believe that key to change is paying attention to everyday relationships as they meet the bigger picture of politics, economics, history.
I believe what we've got isn't good enough. The successes of our past will not be our final word when it comes to health and human flourishing. |
